Il TRIAC (TRIode for Alternating Current) è un dispositivo semiconduttore di potenza bidirezionale che permette il controllo della corrente alternata. Grazie alla sua capacità di condurre corrente in entrambe le direzioni una volta innescato, il TRIAC è particolarmente adatto per il controllo di carichi AC, come il dimming delle luci, la regolazione della velocità dei motori e il controllo dei riscaldatori elettrici.
È simile a due SCR (tiristori) collegati in antiparallelo, ma integrati in un unico componente, con tre terminali principali: MT1 (Main Terminal 1), MT2 (Main Terminal 2) e Gate. L'attivazione avviene tramite un impulso al gate, che permette di gestire la commutazione e di regolare la potenza del carico.
